Lamp Instructions
The following are the requirements for the instructions for your lamp. This assumes a lamp intended for use indoors, and not intended for rough use and not designed to any IP rating.
Items in bold are always required
Items in italic are required where relevant, as explained in the comment
Items in normal text are good practice but not mandatory
Anything in red is an explanatory comment
Instructions on safety have to be in a language acceptable to the country where the lamp will be installed / used - normally an official language of the country
Name and address of maker
Additional contact details (e.g. web site)
EU representative name and address for sales to the EU or Northern Ireland where the manufacturer is not in that region
Complaints contact contact details (e.g. phone and/or email address) for complaints), required if sold in to NI or the EU
Make/model of lamp
Voltage and frequency requirements for mains lamps, (i.e. 230V, 50Hz in the UK and rest of Europe)
Voltage and AC or DC and (for AC) frequency requirements for lamps not powered by mains power, e.g. 12V DC
Operating temperature range if outside of 0 - 25°C
Rated current (in A or mA) of any internal fuse. Also giving the fuse size/type is useful to the user
A wiring diagram except if it has a plug or is directly wired in to the mains
Type and size of bulb holder, and maximum bulb wattage
Safety instructions, up to you to decide how far you go but such as:
• Read all instructions carefully and keep for future reference.
• For Household Use only. Not intended for commercial use.
• Only for use indoors. Do not use outside or in damp / wet conditions or in bathrooms.
• To prevent damage to the mains cord, do not let it pass over sharp corners, edges or hot surfaces.
• The supply cord cannot be replaced. If the cord is damaged the appliance should be scrapped.
• Do not use this Lamp if damaged.
• Any plastic protective cover on the shade must be removed prior to use.
• This lamp should only be used on a flat surface.
• This lamp is not intended for use by persons with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or
lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning
use of the appliance, by a person responsible for their safety.
• Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with this Lamp.
• Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children.
• Should you need to replace a bulb, allow sufficient time for the bulb and lampshade assembly to cool
before proceeding to do so.
• Never touch the bare bulb with your bare fingers or hands.
Under no circumstances can the lamp be mounted on a normally flammable surface for wall or ceiling mounted lamps that mustn't be mounted on things like wood, e.g. where the base gets hot enough to be a fire risk
Only to be installed outside of arm's reach for wall mounted settable or adjustable lamps not intended to be mounted within arm's reach
The light source in this lamp is not replaceable. When the light source fails, the whole lamp shall be replaced For lamps with a non-replaceable bulb
The light source in this lamp shall only be replaced by the manufacturer or their service agent or a similarly qualified person For lamps where the bulb is not replaceable bulb by the end user
Assembly / Installation instructions
For indoor use only This is to be used where a lamp looks as though it is suitable for outdoor use, but doesn't meet all of the standard's requirements for use outdoors, e.g. it has a PVC cable.
Minimum safe distance from the lamp to lit objects with text such as Keep the minimum distance from any object - when illuminated - to at least x.x m This is where heat from the bulb may heat a surface up to 90°C or more
Warning: not to be mounted on tubes for clip-on lamps where they may rotate if mounted on a round tube
Cleaning instructions
Lamp position/adjustment instructions if the lamp is adjustable
Dimmer instructions, including bulb compatability if the lamp has a dimmer
Bulb replacement instructions if not obvious
Lamp disposable/recycling information
CE and/or UKCA mark
WEEE symbol with text such as: The crossed-out wheeled bin symbol indicates that the item should be disposed of separately from household waste. The item should be handed in for recycling in accordance with local environmental regulations for waste disposal. By separating a marked item from household waste, you will help reduce the volume of waste sent to incinerators or land-fill and minimize any potential negative impact on human health and the environment.
Declaration of Conformity Needs to be supplied with the lamp, either on a separate slip of paper or on the back of the instructions
